Margo Cilker THIS weekend

19 Feb

I will keep this short.  Many of you know that my beautiful brother Shane died powerfully exactly one week ago today in NYC.  His beloved wife Carolyn and I were with him during his transition. We are blessed to have known and to have loved Shane. And we feel loved and supported in our grieving.

While our hearts are full of love, they are also broken and we are working to tend to them.  I have not been playing much live music, but I will play joyfully and soulfully for Shane this weekend, with the inimitable Margo Cilker and our many wonderful bandmates (Forrest Van Tuyl, Sera Cahoone, Jeremy Ferrara, Charles Wicklander), who are also my dear friends.

Both nights are CLOSE TO SOLD OUT.  But there are a handful of tickets and more info here:

Live Music is Good for YOU!

1 Nov

Hello friends and music lovers,

Happy November? Yikes.  What a month this will be…
I’ve been a little quiet.  Spending time with my family in NYC and hunkering down as the season turns.  It is a time of reflection and it’s a little dark outside and in.  And Daylight Savings is around the corner – why??
Music, Yoga/Meditation, my animals, and the most amazing Friends and Community a girl could have keep me more or less sane.
And here are some fantastic shows I’m playing the first half of this new month before returning to NYC for more time with family.

Friday, November 8.  The Jelly Rollers (reuniting after many years – and it feels so good)
Owl ‘n Thistle Pub.  Pioneer Square
9-Midnight.  No Cover
We’ll be playing some old style Blues and throwing in a couple of other surprises at this iconic Irish Pub.
I’ll be playing bass with these fine friends/killer musicians:  Darren Loucas (Guitar, vocals), Sean Divine (Harmonica, Vocals), Eric Eagle (Drums).
This is our first appearance together since Sean moved to The Peninsula.  We are excited to play together again and it’s always a wild ride.
https://owlnthistle.com/

Saturday, November 9.  Carrie Akre
Easy Street Records, West Seattle
7pm In Store Performance.  No Cover
This show is in celebration of the Vinyl LP and Lyric Book release of Carrie’s beautiful record, Home.  We are so excited to play Home in its entirety with me on bass and these beautiful musicians:  Amy Stolzenbach (Guitars), Patrick Porter (Guitars, Keys), Aimee Zoe (Drums), Anne Marie Ruljancich (Violin).

Friday, November 15.  Shadow Basket/Forrest Van Tuyl/Betsy Olson Band
Conor Byrne Pub Cooperative, Ballard
Doors, 8p.  Show, 9p.  $12 advance
Oh, what a night!  I’ll be playing bass with both Forrest and Betsy Olson with Betsy’s band (including Sera Cahoone and Moe Provencher) also backing Forrest Van Tuyl.  I mean…Not much more to say except, Get Your Tickets Here:

Saturday, November 16. Linda:The Story and Music of Linda Ronstadt.  6pm.  The Triple Door, downtown Seattle
This show is SOLD OUT.  And there’s a waiting list if you’re interested.
BUT we’ve added a second show at 9pm – and there are still a few tickets. (This second show will SELL OUT, so get tickets now, for real, if you’re hoping to attend.)
I’m so excited to be collaborating with my dear friend, V. Contreras, to present an evening to honor  and tell the story of one of the greatest voices/musicians of all time. V and I have been planning this show for…years.  And we’re telling a whole lot of Linda’s story; we’ll feature music that spans the eras of her early work in folk and rock ‘n roll, her collaboration with the inimitable Nelson Riddle, and the Spanish language songs of her childhood that celebrate her Mexican heritage. The band features vocalists Brenna Bruce, V. Contreras and Mireya Ramos and other special guests.  The house band features me on bass with Jason Staczek on keys, David Salonen on guitars, Aaron O’Neil on drums, and Alex Guy directing a string quartet.  Mariachi Mi Tierra Seattle will perform the Spanish language songs sung by Mireya Ramos. Bhama Roget will hold us all together as MC for the evening.

Pasty Cline this weekend!

4 Sep

Early September means…

Friday, Saturday, Sunday September 6, 7, 8. Sweet Dreams: The Music of Patsy Cline. 7pm (Sunday at 5pm). The Triple Door, downtown Seattle
It’s that time of year.  Patsy Cline would have been 92 years old on September 8.  We honor her contribution to the world of country music every September and I do this show for my grandmother who introduced me to her voice when I was a child. Join me and this big band – Aaron O’Neil, Country Dave Harmonson, Dan Rainard, William Stover with singers Star Ana, Hillary Fretland, Jessica Lynne Witty, Miller Campbell, & Kimmi Bitter for some glitter & glamor as we pay tribute to this icon of country music.
