Strawshop’s Original BeatleConcert is Back

28 Oct

Hello friends and lovers of live music!

I fell in love with the Beatles as a kid and have loved and listened to them my entire life.  And every member of this band shares this love and we are actually giddy – and emotional – in our rehearsals.

And so it is with reverence, heart, and anticipaton (and more fucking practice hours than you could ever imagine) that we perform these shows as presented by Strawberry Theatre Workshop.

Info is below.  We are aiming to sell the shows out (lots of repeat attendees), so please don’t wait to get tickets if you are interested!

This November, the Mainstage at 12th Ave Arts will be transformed into a mock recording studio where patrons can watch the creation of the greatest songs from Beatles catalog of 1966-1970—the music that the original artists never performed in front of a live audience.  Paul Hiraga (Downpilot) returns with his all star ensemble to recreate songs from Abbey Road, the White Album, Revolver, Sgt Pepper and the studio singles that defined the Beatles’ legacy.

Join Strawshop on Thursday, Nov-10 for a special private performance with the band, aimed at raising money for the theatre’s spring festival, Strawberry Jam 2023.  Tickets for this benefit performance provide reserved seating and a close intimate evening with the musicians and the music.

Return on Friday/SaturdayNov 11-12, with 150 of your closest friends and immerse yourself in the music the way the Beatles never had a chance to present it themselves: live and in concert.

Everything you need to know is at: strawshop.org/beatleconcert
Seats are limited and they will sell out, so act quickly.

SHe Said Opens TOMORROW

5 Oct

Hi friends & fam &  lovers of The ARTS!

We are so excited to open SHe Said TOMORROW night, October 6, at Broadway Performance Hall.

Jen Ayers and The Band (under the fine direction of R.L. Heyer) have been working tirelessly to bring this story to life and to a live audience.  I am in awe of Jen & Graham Ayers and their families and all that they have maneuvered and navigated these last many years.  SHe Said is at its core a love story.  A true, gender-crashing musical story that explores the impact of gender identity on a family and couple who transition together.

Thanks to ALL who have purchased tickets to support this production. The entire cast & crew appreciate it so much.

For those who want tickets and more info:
WHAT:  SHe Said
WHEN: October 6, 7, 8, 9

Fall Tween/Teen Yoga

27 Sep

Hello Yoga Friends and Families,

I am happy to announce that I’ll be back – after 2 ½ years!!! – to teach YOGA to TWEENS/TEENS IN PERSON, through 8 Limbs Yoga Centers- Phinney Ridge

This 6-week series will run on Wednesdays, October 5 – November 9, from 4-5pm. You may attend IN PERSON or ONLINE, as you prefer.

Guiding these Tweens and Teens in the practice of yoga – through breath, movement, and conversation – is one of the most rewarding and meaningful things I do.  I am devoted to my own practice of yoga & meditation and enjoy sharing that passion along with some of the tools that we can access to help students become more aware of their own bodies, thoughts and emotions.

Developing the practice of yoga as a kind of ‘Superpower’ can allow these 10-14 year-olds an opportunity to find more ease and more joy in a fast-paced and complex world where technology and a lack of connection with others and with  nature can sometimes make us feel stressed and alienated. There is a big focus (as requested by students) on exploring ways in which we can slow down and relax.  We also have a lot of fun and there is space for connecting as a group where everyone is welcome and included and unique.

You can register here: https://8limbsyoga.com/offering/tween-yoga-series/

Friends and Music Lovers,

It’s FALL.  Time to turn on the heat (NO!!!) and get out to some shows so we don’t become hermits this season.

After a very busy early September (thanks to all who came out to see The inimitable Debbie Miller, the Patsy Cline tribute shows, and the magical Matt Alber) and a quick trip to visit fam in NYC, I am about to enter a very busy remainder of September and early October rehearsing (pretty much daily) for the long awaited performances of:

WHAT:  SHe Said, A 21st century love story that explores the impact of gender identity on a family and couple who transition together.

WHERE: Broadway Performance Hall, Capitol Hill.

Powerhouse musician and vocalist Jen Ayers premieres “SHe Said”, her new live show at Seattle’s Broadway Performance Hall 10/6, 10/7, 10/8 and 10/9. This gender-crashing musical story, written and performed by Ayers, also features Marc Kenison (aka Waxie Moon), a grand piano, a live band (Kathy Moore, Rebecca Young, RL Heyer, Melissa Montalto and Geoff Reading) and a multimedia mashup of 70s animation, soul-pop, glam rock, and “The Moth”, all rolled into one. Directed by Daryle Conners.
